PowerSchool comes with a very powerful, but buggy, report writer know as the "Reporting Engine".  Creating reports with the "Reporting Engine" is a very cumbersome and time consuming process.  The "Reporting Engine" is accompanied by a 300 page, hard to use, hard to understand, manual. In fact PowerSchool is no longer supporting the "Reporting Engine" for customer use.  It is still there. You can still use it. But you are on your own. "eZ_Reports" is a program written in Visual Basic that attempts to make the process easier.

Writing a report with the "Reporting Engine" can take several days whereas writing the same report with "eZ_Reports" can take only minutes.

    Windows-95 or above

Limitations:

    Master Table:
         5 Search parameters
         5 Sort Parameters

    6 Additional Tables:
         4 Search/Link Parameters

    12 Output fields

    eZ_Report is for PC users only.

"eZ_Reports" does not support all the functionality of the PowerSchool "Reporting Engine".

You can produce reports that display data from one or more tables in tabular format.

Some limitations come from the "Reporting Engine".  If you can't do it with the "Reporting Engine", you can't do it with "eZ_Reports".

       Sorting can only be done on the fields in the Master Table.
       However "eZ_Reports" comes with "eZ_Tools" which will sort the report after it is run.

       When linking from one table to another - one and only one record is returned.
               For example if "Students" is the Master Table and "Log" is the second table,
               you only get the first log entry for each student not all the log enties.
               So you must to start with the "Log" table, but then you can't sort by student name
               within PowerSchool.

eZ_Reports was designed to work at an 800 x 600 screen resultion. eZ_Reports will not run at a lower resolution and will not be full screen when run at a higher resolution.
