What are Content Blocks ? Most of the pages in eZ_Web are built by defining a series of "content blocks". A content block is a usually a combination of a Title, a Text area, and an Image. Each of these is optional. There are currently 10 different content styles available. Each style is identified by a letter. More styles can be added by request. Content block styles A through J are shown below.
Ordering Content Blocks Two different schemes of ordering is used - reverse chronological and sort order. For Assignments and Notices the newest ones are displayed at the top of the page. The others follow in reverse chronological order. You generally don't need to worry about the order - but you can change the order by changing the date on a content block. All other pages built with "Content blocks" have a field called "Sort Order" which determines the order content is displayed on the page.
The number in the "Sort Order" box determines the order of the
"content blocks" on the page. The lowest numbers are displayed
at the top of the page and highest numbers are displayed at the bottom
of the page. When you initially assign "Sort Order" numbers,
it is recommended that you use increments of 10. That way if you
want to insert new content blocks between existing content you have an
easy way to do it.
Adding Content Blocks The "General Class Information" page for the course ADV BASIC Programming has no content.
1 - Make sure you login first. 2 - Click on the link or tab for the page you want to add content to. In this case click the "General Tab". 3 - Click the "Add Content" button at the bottom of the page.
4 - You will see a new window open with a sample of each of the ten layout styles. Select the style you want to use and click on the "Continue" button.
5 - I will select the default style E. A new "Enter New Content Block" window will open up. What you see will vary slightly depending on which style you have selected.
6 - The first thing you need to fill out is the "Sort Order". As described above, this number determines the order your content blocks will be displayed on your page. I want it near the top, so I'll use "10".
Note that it is outside of the drawn box. Only the content inside the drawn box will be actually be displayed on the student screen. 7 - The "Title" is optional. Many of your content blocks will not have a title - but some will.
8 - Now exter the "content text" in the large text box.
I would recommend you type it up in your word processor and then cut and
paste it into position. At this time some characters may cause strange
effects - I will look into addressing this in the near future, but in the
mean time avoid using quotation marks ("), apostrophes ('), less than symbols
(<), and greater than symbols (>).
9 - You can not change the image here - you must do it in the edit function.
10 - When done, click on the "Save" button.
